The 137 Composite Ecological Task Force Battalion (Territorial Army), 39 Gorkha Rifles, will hold a recruitment rally from 16 to 21 November 2026 at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium near Cantt, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, for 74 Junior Commissioned Officer and Soldier posts. There is no application fee, and there is no online or postal application at all.

Read this first, because it is the single biggest misunderstanding about this rally: it is not for freshers, and it is not open to all ex-servicemen either. Only two groups can take part — pension-holding ex-servicemen with Indian domicile, and ex-women employees (including premature retirees) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change or a State Forest Department, with at least 20 years of service there. If you do not fall in one of those two groups, this rally is not for you, no matter how strong your other qualifications are.

The second trap is the idea of a “last date”. The notification gives no last date to apply, because there is nothing to apply through. The application is your physical presence: eligible candidates must report at 7:00 AM on 16 November 2026 at the Prayagraj venue for screening and physical tests. Arriving on 17 November, or arriving at noon on 16 November, is not a late application — it is a missed rally.

The third point is about the job itself. Territorial Army service is voluntary, part-time and temporary. The initial enrolment is for 2 years, extendable subject to performance, suitability and continuation of the project. Anyone joining on the assumption of a permanent, full-time posting will be disappointed — go in with the 2-year part-time nature of the service clearly understood. And as with every Army recruitment, it is free: do not pay any agent or intermediary any money for selection.

Soldier (General Duty) alone accounts for 61 of the 74 posts, so most candidates at the rally will be competing for that one trade. The remaining trades are single- or double-seat posts, which makes the trade proficiency test decisive for those candidates.

Who Can Take Part

  • Eligible ex-servicemen: Indian domicile, pension holders only.
  • Eligible ex-women employees: employees, including premature retirees, of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and State Forest Departments, with at least 20 years of service.
  • Enrolment condition: enrolment must be within 5 years from the date of retirement.
  • Maximum service age: 55 years for Junior Commissioned Officers and 50 years for Other Ranks.

Educational qualifications are stated to be as per Army standards for the post concerned. The summary available does not give a post-wise qualification table, so confirm the qualification for your specific post from the official notification before travelling to Prayagraj — a long journey on an assumed qualification is an expensive mistake.

Physical Standards and Tests

StandardEx-Servicemen (Male)Ex-Servicemen (Female)
Height160 cm (152 cm for Gorkhas, Garhwalis and Assamese)150 cm
WeightMinimum 50 kgMinimum 42 kg
Chest82 cm with 5 cm expansionMinimum 5 cm expansion

Physical tests for male candidates include the 1 mile run, pull-ups, ditch and zig-zag balance beam. Selection then proceeds through a proficiency or trade test, medical examination, interview by the Board of Officers and document verification. Each stage filters the next, so fitness alone is not enough — the trade test and the interview both have to be cleared.

Documents to Carry

Carry the originals, not just photocopies, of your Discharge Book, Pension Payment Order, educational certificates, domicile certificate and character certificate from the Village Sarpanch or Police Authority. Also carry 8 recent coloured passport-size photographs. Missing originals at a rally cannot be fixed by a later submission — verification happens at the venue, and an incomplete document set means the candidate does not proceed.
