CGST Lucknow Sports Quota Recruitment 2026: Havaldar & Tax Assistant – 17 Posts, No Fee, Offline Form
If you have played sports at a recognised level and hold a 10th pass certificate or a graduation degree, the Central GST and Central Excise Zone, Lucknow has opened a door that most general job notifications never offer. Under the sports quota for meritorious sportspersons, the department is filling 17 posts — 14 Havaldar and 3 Tax Assistant — and the entire process is offline, with no application fee at all.
This is not a normal vacancy where anyone with the minimum education can apply. Here, your sports certificate is the real ticket. A candidate with a graduation degree but no recognised sports achievement cannot apply, while a 10th pass sportsperson with the right certificate can. That single condition changes who should — and should not — spend time on this form.

Who Is Actually Eligible? The Sports Condition Explained
This is the part most applicants get wrong. Educational qualification alone is not enough. You must be a meritorious sportsperson in one of the recognised sports disciplines listed in the departmental notice — the list follows the DoPT Office Memorandum dated 04 March 2024 and covers around 65 disciplines, including Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Shooting, Swimming, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Wushu, Yogasana, and many more, including para sports.
Two things about the sports certificate deserve special attention:
1. The 04 March 2024 cut-off. Your sports qualification must have been obtained after 04 March 2024. An older medal or participation certificate, however impressive, will not satisfy this condition. Check the date on your certificate before you apply.
2. The certificate must be from a recognised body. Only achievements certified by the authorised sports bodies in the prescribed forms count. A school-level certificate or an uncertified participation letter is unlikely to pass scrutiny. Read the detailed departmental notice carefully for the exact sports-eligibility norms and the level of competition required.
Physical Standards for Havaldar
Havaldar is a field post, so physical standards apply. These are checked separately from the sports achievement.
| Test | Male Candidates | Female Candidates |
|---|---|---|
| Height | 157.5 cm | 152 cm |
| Chest | 81–86 cm | — |
| Weight | — | 48 kg |
| Walking Test | 1600 metres in 15 minutes | 1 kilometre in 20 minutes |
Tax Assistant has no physical test, but candidates should check the detailed notice for any skill or data-entry test applicable to that post.
Age Limit and Relaxation
The age limit for both posts is 18 to 27 years. Relaxation for reserved categories is given as per the central government rules. If you belong to a reserved category, confirm the exact relaxation from the detailed notice rather than assuming it.
How to Apply – Step by Step
There is no online portal for this recruitment. The application is made on paper, in the prescribed proforma (Annexure-A) given in the detailed notice.
- Download the application form from the official website of the CGST Lucknow Zone or obtain it from a form seller in your town or city.
- Fill every column in English block letters, using a black pen only. Do not leave any column blank, and do not cut or overwrite anything.
- On the envelope, write clearly: “Application for Meritorious Sportsperson in CGST & Central Excise Lucknow Zone 2026”.
- Attach self-attested photocopies of all required documents (list below). Do NOT send original certificates with the application.
- Send the envelope by post so that it reaches the following address on or before 23 November 2026:
The Additional Commissioner (CCA),
Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner,
CGST & Central Excise, Lucknow Zone,
7-A, Ashok Marg, Lucknow – 226001

Candidates from specified remote areas get 10 additional days as per the detailed notice — check whether your domicile qualifies before relying on the extra time. For everyone else, “last date” means the date the application reaches Lucknow, not the date you post it. Send it early enough that postal delay does not kill your application.
Documents to Attach
Attach self-attested copies of the following with the application form:
- Educational and professional qualification certificates
- Date of birth proof (10th class certificate)
- Caste certificate (if you belong to a reserved category)
- Aadhaar Card and PAN Card copies
- Sports certificates
- NOC from the present employer (if you are already in government service)
Original documents must not be sent with the application. They will be asked for at the document verification stage.
Common Mistakes That Get Sports Quota Forms Rejected
- Applying without a valid sports certificate. This is a sports quota recruitment. Without a recognised sports achievement after 04 March 2024, the form will not survive scrutiny, no matter how good your marks are.
- Posting late. The form must reach Lucknow by 23 November 2026. Posting it on the last date from another state is the same as not applying.
- Sending originals. Originals sent by post can be lost and are not asked for at this stage. Send self-attested copies only.
- Wrong envelope superscription. The envelope must carry the exact line mentioned above. A plain envelope risks being sorted into the wrong pile.
- Assuming Lucknow posting. Selected candidates can be posted anywhere in the Lucknow and Meerut zones — Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Apply only if you are willing to serve anywhere in that jurisdiction.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1. Is there any application fee for CGST Lucknow Sports Quota Recruitment 2026?
No. There is no application fee for any category. If anyone asks you for money in the name of this form, it is a fraud.
Q2. Can I apply online for these posts?
No. The application mode is offline only — by post, in the prescribed proforma. There is no online application facility mentioned in the notification.
Q3. I am a graduate. Can I apply for Havaldar?
Yes, you can apply for Havaldar if you meet the sports condition, but remember that Havaldar requires only 10th pass plus physical standards. Your graduation does not give extra advantage for that post. For Tax Assistant, graduation plus computer knowledge is required.
Q4. My sports certificate is from 2023. Can I apply?
No. The sports qualification must have been obtained after 04 March 2024, as per the departmental notice. Certificates older than that date do not satisfy the condition.
Q5. Where will I be posted if selected?
Anywhere under the jurisdiction of the Cadre Control Authority, Lucknow — that is, the Lucknow Zone and Meerut Zone, spread over Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Do not assume a Lucknow city posting.
Q6. What is the last date to apply?
Your application must reach the Lucknow office on or before 23 November 2026. Remote-area candidates get 10 additional days as per the detailed notice.
