IAF Hindi Typist Recruitment 2026: 1 Group C Post at HQ Southern Air Command, Trivandrum – Apply Offline by 23 November

One post. That is all the Indian Air Force is offering at Headquarters Southern Air Command (Unit), Akkulam, Trivandrum this time — a single Group ‘C’ civilian vacancy of Hindi Typist, advertised through Advertisement No. 04/2026 in the Employment News dated 24–30 October 2026. The number looks small, but read it the other way: this is a permanent Central Government post in the Air Force, the application costs nothing, and the competition pool is deliberately narrow because the seat is reserved. If you are an OBC candidate who has passed Class 12 and can type in Hindi at 30 words per minute, this one deserves a serious, carefully-filled application — sent early enough to physically reach Kerala by 23 November 2026.

Read This First: The Only Seat Is Reserved for OBC

This is the point most candidates will miss, and the advertisement itself prints it in bold at the top — this vacancy is not open to all categories. The single Hindi Typist post at HQ Southern Air Command is reserved for OBC, and the notice clearly says applications for this post are to be made in the OBC category only. General (UR), SC and ST candidates should not apply for this particular post; their applications are liable to be rejected at the scrutiny stage itself.

Two things OBC candidates must get right:

  • Your caste must figure in the Central List of OBCs. This is a Central Government post, so a caste that is recognised only in a state list will not work here.
  • The OBC certificate must show non-creamy layer status and be in the format prescribed for Central Government appointments, issued as per the latest Government rules. Get this checked before you post the form, not after the call letter stage.

Vacancy and Pay Details

UnitPostVacancyCategoryPay Level
HQ Southern Air Command (Unit), Akkulam, Trivandrum – 695011Hindi Typist01OBCLevel-2 (Rs.19,900 – 63,200)

Along with the basic pay, the selected candidate gets the usual Central Government benefits — DA, HRA, transport allowance, medical facilities and pension benefits as applicable to IAF civilian employees. The advertisement reserves the right to increase, decrease or cancel the vacancy; treat the single post as advertised today, nothing more.

A quick clarification that saves confusion: the “Rs.30” printed on the newspaper poster is the price of the newspaper, not an application fee. The application fee for this recruitment is genuinely nil.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational qualification: 12th class pass from a recognised Board.

Typing skill: A typing speed of 30 w.p.m. in Hindi on computer is essential — this is a Hindi Typist post, so Hindi typing is the core skill being recruited for. In the skill test, 30 w.p.m. works out to roughly 9,000 key depressions per hour, and the test is of qualifying nature: you must clear it, but the merit is decided by the written test.

Nationality: Indian citizen only.

Do not treat the 12th-pass condition as the real filter. Almost every applicant will be 12th pass; the candidates who survive are the ones whose Hindi typing actually holds at 30 w.p.m. under test conditions. If your speed is borderline today, you have roughly a month of practice time before the test stage — use it.

Age Limit and Relaxation

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Maximum age: 25 years, counted as on the last date of receipt of application (23 November 2026)
  • OBC relaxation: 3 years — so an OBC candidate can apply up to 28 years
  • Other relaxations, where applicable, are as per Government of India rules

Since the only vacancy is OBC-reserved, the practical age window for this post is 18–28 years for eligible candidates.

Selection Process

The selection moves in clear stages, and only shortlisted candidates are informed — the unit sends call letters by post, so the address you write on the form and on your self-addressed envelope matters more than usual.

StageWhat Happens
ScrutinyApplications are checked for age, qualification, category and documents; only eligible candidates get a call letter
Written TestCarries 100% weightage for merit; paper in English and Hindi, based on the minimum qualification level — General Intelligence, English Language, Numerical Aptitude and General Awareness
Typing Skill TestHindi typing test on computer; qualifying only, but compulsory to pass
Document Verification & MedicalOriginals are verified for candidates who clear the above stages

No TA/DA is paid for attending the written test. Selected candidates carry All India Service Liability, and the exam centre can be different from the unit you post the application to.

Note the wording carefully: 23 November is the date by which your envelope must reach Akkulam, Trivandrum — not the date by which you post it. The Air Force is not responsible for postal delays.

Documents to Attach

Send self-attested photocopies only — never the originals. The advertisement lists the following:

  • All educational and professional qualification certificates (Class 12 certificate and marksheet)
  • Proof of date of birth (the educational certificate showing your date of birth)
  • Caste certificate — OBC certificate with non-creamy layer status, for this reserved post
  • One self-addressed envelope with a Rs.10 postage stamp affixed, with your complete postal address written on it
  • Experience certificate, if the post requires it / if you have relevant experience
  • Two extra recent passport-size colour photographs (apart from the one pasted on the form)
  • Residence / domicile proof
  • Copy of Employment Exchange registration, if your name is registered there

How to Apply – Step by Step

  1. Get the form format. The application is to be made in the prescribed format (Annexure-I) printed with the advertisement in the Employment News dated 24–30 October 2026 (Advt. No. 04/2026). Type the application on A4-size paper exactly in that format.
  2. Fill it cleanly. All columns are to be filled clearly in English capital (block) letters. There must be no cutting and no overwriting anywhere on the form — one overwritten column can cost you the candidature.
  3. Write the unit’s name. The application must clearly mention the unit applied to — HQ SOUTHERN AIR COMMAND, IAF.
  4. Paste your photograph. Affix a recent passport-size photograph on the form and self-attest it as directed; keep the two extra photographs loose with the documents.
  5. Attach the documents. Put the self-attested copies listed above in order, and do not forget the self-addressed envelope with the Rs.10 stamp — this envelope is how your call letter comes back.
  6. Superscribe the envelope. On top of the envelope, write: “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF HINDI TYPIST, CATEGORY: OBC, ADVT NO. 04/2026”.
  7. Post it to this address: The Commanding Officer,
Head Quarter Southern Air Command (Unit),
    Akkulam, Trivandrum – 695011 [Kerala]
  8. Send it early. Use Registered Post or Speed Post so you have a tracking record, and post it several days before 23 November 2026. Applications received before the advertisement date or after the closing date are rejected outright.

Not the Same as the May 2026 IAF Group C Drive — Apply Fresh

Candidates who follow Air Force civilian recruitments may remember the big IAF Group ‘C’ advertisement of May 2026 (Advt. No. 01/2026), which carried 47 LDC, Hindi Typist and Driver posts across many commands — a single OBC Hindi Typist post at this same Trivandrum unit was part of that drive too. This October notice is a separate, fresh advertisement (Advt. No. 04/2026) with its own application window and its own deadline. An application sent for the earlier drive does not count for this one. If you applied in May and are still eligible, you must apply again, in this format, to this address, by 23 November 2026.

Mistakes That Get These Applications Rejected

  • Applying in the wrong category. This seat is OBC-only. A perfect form from a UR/SC/ST candidate is still a rejected form.
  • Forgetting the Rs.10 self-addressed envelope. It is a listed requirement, not a courtesy. Without it, your call letter has no way back to you.
  • No superscription on the envelope, or the advertisement number missing from it.
  • Cutting or overwriting on the application — the notice bans it expressly.
  • Sending originals. Only self-attested copies go in the envelope; originals are produced at verification.
  • Posting at the last moment. The rule is receipt by 23 November at a unit in Kerala. A form posted on 22 November from North India will almost certainly arrive late.
  • Treating Hindi typing as a formality. The skill test is qualifying but compulsory — candidates who cannot hold 30 w.p.m. in Hindi are out, whatever their written-test score.
