Here is something you do not see every day: a defence ministry recruitment where even 8th pass candidates can apply, there is zero application fee, and the interview date is already fixed. First, What Is ECHS?

ECHS stands for Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme — a network of polyclinics and hospitals run by the Ministry of Defence that provides medical care to ex-servicemen and their families. The Yol, Hamirpur and Sarkaghat polyclinics (all in Himachal Pradesh) need contractual staff, and that is what this recruitment is for. These are contract posts, not permanent government jobs — currently for one year, and for civilian candidates the appointment is for 11 months.

Note the gap: applications close on 14 October and the interview is just 19 days later, on 2 November. There is no admit card system here — shortlisted candidates simply report at Yol on the interview date with their documents.

Vacancy Details — All 13 Posts

The salary figures are fixed monthly amounts for the contract period. Age is counted as on the last date of application.

Eligibility — Grouped for Clarity

8th pass and basic literacy posts: Peon and Chowkidar need 8th pass. Safaiwala and Female Attendant only require the candidate to know reading and writing — no formal certificate bar mentioned.

Graduate posts: Clerk and Data Entry Operator need graduation, or one clerical trade qualification from the Armed Forces, plus computer knowledge.

Medical posts: Pharmacist needs B.Pharmacy, or 12th with science (PCB) plus a pharmacy diploma. Nursing Assistant needs a GNM diploma or the Class-1 course from the Armed Forces. Dental Technician needs a dental hygiene diploma or the Class-1 DH DORA course.

The ex-servicemen rule — read carefully: Preference goes to ex-servicemen, and a civilian candidate becomes eligible only if no ex-serviceman is available for that post. If you are a civilian applying for the Clerk or DEO post, keep this in mind and still apply — many ECHS recruitments do end up considering civilians for posts where ESM candidates do not come forward. For medical registration posts, council registration is required wherever applicable.

How to Apply — Offline, in Triplicate

This part has unusual requirements, so follow it point by point:

1. Prepare the application in the prescribed format and fill all three copies (the application must be submitted in triplicate).
2. Do not leave any column blank — where a column does not apply to you, write “N.A.” or “Not Applicable”.
3. Fill every column in clear handwriting; no cutting or overwriting.
4. Attach self-attested photocopies of all documents (never send originals).
5. Write the post name and your caste/category on top of the envelope.
6. Send it by hand delivery, registered post, speed post or ordinary post so it reaches the address below on or before 14 October 2026.

Documents to Attach

• Aadhaar card and PAN card copies
• 8th / 10th / 12th / graduation / diploma certificates (as applicable)
• Medical or pharmacy council registration (wherever required)
• PPO, discharge book and identity card (for ex-servicemen)
• Experience certificate (wherever required)
• No-objection certificate from current employer (if employed)

On interview day (2 November, 9:00 AM) carry two photographs, medical fitness certificate and all original documents, and report at Station Headquarters, ECHS, Yol Cantt. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing.

A Few Practical Tips

• Apply for one post only — the form rules say a candidate should apply for a single post.
• Post early. With the last date on 14 October and the interview on 2 November, there is no buffer for postal delays.
• Civilians: the ESM-preference rule is real, but posts like Safaiwala, Female Attendant and Peon historically see civilian selections when ESM applicants are unavailable — it costs nothing to apply since there is no fee.
